Discovery review

One workspace for all prosecution discovery

Discovery in a criminal case rarely arrives in one format. A single production can hold offense reports, Bates-numbered PDFs, a phone extraction, recorded jail calls and hours of bodycam. Coherence is discovery review software that lets a defense team search and work through all of it in one place, with every result linked back to the page, timestamp or Bates number it came from.

Getting discovery in

You can import from TechShare, OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox or Box, or upload from a local device. For large phone extractions and months of bodycam, the Sync Agent is a desktop client that uploads in the background. If the network drops, it resumes where it stopped and does not upload again what already landed.

Every file is hashed when it arrives, so the record of what you received starts the moment it lands.

Search across every format

Documents, emails, chats, Bates productions, audio and video are indexed and transcribed as they land, across dozens of languages. You can type a phrase, upload a face, or search for an object such as a weapon, and results come back from every file type at once.

A search for "free to leave" returns the line in the bodycam transcript with its timestamp next to the sentence in the offense report with its page number.

Every result cites its source

Coherence does not hand you a summary to take on trust. Each search hit, extracted entity and analyzer observation links to the exact page, paragraph, timestamp or Bates number, so you can check it in a click and cite it in a motion.

Faces are matched across cameras, voices are linked to speakers, and officers are identified from bodycam burn-in. Phone numbers, plates, vehicles, places, money and weapons are extracted from the files and cited the same way.

Analysis that leaves the conclusion to you

Miranda analyzers flag gaps, timing and completeness for review. Where reports, testimony and footage disagree, Coherence surfaces the difference as a candidate for you to look at, with both sources cited. It suggests and never concludes.

You can also ask the file a direct question, for example whether Miranda was given before questioning, and get an answer with its citations.

Privilege and work product

Every item is labeled work product by default when it is ingested. Privileged communications stay out of the search index unless you mark them otherwise. Customer case data is stored in Texas on Azure.

From review to court

Video and audio clips, document snippets and references go into an exhibit binder as you work, each cited to its timestamp, page or Bates number. The binder works offline, so it is available in a courtroom without wifi.

Closed cases can move to the archive vault for long-term retention and be restored in hours if an appeal or habeas petition comes up.

Questions

What kind of evidence does Coherence handle?

Documents, emails, chats, Bates numbered productions, audio, photos, and video: bodycam, dash cam, interrogation footage, street CCTV and residential surveillance, with or without timestamps. Everything is indexed and transcribed across dozens of languages.

Does Coherence import from TechShare?

Yes. You can import discovery from TechShare, OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox or Box, upload from a local device, or use the Sync Agent for large uploads.

Is Coherence case management software?

No. Coherence is for reviewing discovery. It does not do billing, calendaring or client intake, so firms keep their case management system for that.

Is Coherence used for civil e-discovery or by prosecutors?

No. Coherence is built for criminal defense only. It is not used by prosecution offices and is not connected to law enforcement systems.

Can I rely on the automated results?

Treat them as leads to check. Transcriptions, entity detection and analyzer observations should be independently verified, and every result links to its source so the check is quick. Coherence does not provide legal advice.
